Become a Tutor Can you remember the first day you went to school? Did you go by yourself or did someone go with you? Did the school seem big or did you feel lost in this new place? School has begun for the children who live in Olde Forge. We are looking for a special someone for each child in the Brain Builders Programs this year. Yes, we need one tutor for each student. On Tuesdays and/or Thursdays afternoons from October-May, tutors assist students with homework, with learning English, and with setting and achieving academic goals. They also encourage responsible behavior, respect for others, and positive attitudes. Requirements: a heart for helping children and being at least 14 years old.
Feed Children We are seeking individuals to coordinate food for our programs. A food coordinator contacts and recruits individuals, mission groups, organizations, businesses and/or churches to provide nutritious food for children in our programs. They put together a schedule, assist with logistics as needed and write thank-you notes as needed. Help Moms/Preschoolers Grow Strong HUGS (Helping Us Grow Strong) is a program that offers preschoolers (ages 0-5 not in Head Start) and their families time to socialize with their neighbors while learning something new. The Preschoolers will enjoy hands on learning, physical activities, music, lunch and field trips. Some of the workshops planned for moms/guardians will be ESL, skin care, dealing with stress, nutrition and cooking, exercise, household organizing, family care, cake decorating, jewelry making and much more. We are looking for individuals to lead one of the above workshops, an early childhood educator, lunch coordinator and volunteers to assist in other areas. Sessions begin October and will meet every Wednesday and Friday, 9:00AM – Noon at Agape Fellowship Ministries, 24 Perchwood Drive, Fredericksburg, VA 22405. Other volunteer needs: Bilingual Volunteers: Persons fluent in Spanish and English to help us build better relationship with our Hispanic families. Persons fluent in Kiswahili and English to help us build better relationships with our African families. These individuals will assist with translating program materials, with home visits, and with program activities. Flexible schedule.
