Theresie Houghton
Program Director

In 2003, working with the Fredericksburg Area Baptist Association, Stafford Social Services, Stafford Sheriff’s Department, and residents of Olde Forge, Theresie envisioned a community partnership ministry to the Olde Forge neighborhood in Stafford County. Under her leadership as Executive Director, Olde Forge Junction grew in capacity, sharing youth activities, educational programs, food, school supplies, and God’s love with the community.  In 2009, with the organization's foundation laid, Theresie asked the board to allow her to move to the role of program director to work more closely with the families.  A University of Virginia graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Theresie Houghton was the manager of a Navy research and development program when she answered God’s call to full-time Christian service in 1994. Her ministry began in Christian clowning, sharing the gift of laughter as “Tickles the Clown” through personal visits and special programs. In May 2000, she received a Masters of Divinity from the Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond with an emphasis on pastoral care and spiritual formation. She was ordained to the Gospel ministry by Fredericksburg Baptist Church in October 2000. Theresie has served as a hospice home care and bereavement volunteer, as a teaching assistant in spirituality, as a deacon at Fredericksburg Baptist Church, and as Community Ministries Coordinator at the Bragg Hill Family Life Center. She has been a chaplain associated with Mary Washington Hospital since 2001.  She currently lives in Spotsylvania with her husband Mark and their two dogs, Kasey and Maxey.

Chris Roehl
Administrative Assistant

Currently, I work part time for OFJ as the Administrative Assistant. I also volunteer for OFJ as a 1-2 grade tutor, occasionally go on field trips and drive the bus. I am active in Trinity United Methodist Church, King George. At church, I am the treasurer, sing in the choir and continue to organize meals at the Thurman Brisben Center 5-6 times a year.  I have an undergraduate degree from Lebanon Valley College with a French major and a second undergraduate degree from Mary Washington College with a business major. I passed the CPA exam in May 1998. I spent 10 years as a stay at home mom with my two boys, David and Mark, although we didn’t stay home much. We spent time volunteering. My kids and I drove people to doctor’s visits for social services, organized vacation bible school and directed the children’s choir. Once the kids went to school, I spent time in their classrooms reading to the kids and working with various children individually. I also volunteered at Thurman Brisben helping to organize lunch. When my youngest was in second grade I started working full-time outside the home. I worked in a manufacturing firm, a law office (doing individual taxes and estates) and in retail. All of these phases of my life have equipped me for the work I do for OFJ.

Lisa Bales

Volunteer Coordinator

I am native of Fredericksburg and graduated from Stafford High School and Mary Washington College.  I have a 23 year-old son, Patrick, and a 21 year-old daughter, Laura.  Both are in college.  When I thought I was headed to graduate school, I received a different calling and began on a path of human services in the community that I dearly love.  Most of my career has encompassed non-profit administration, but I have also served as a Board member for the Mental Health Association and as a Hospice volunteer.  For eight years I served as Director of Fredericksburg Personal Counseling Services, and for almost fifteen years, as Director of Rappahannock Big Brothers Big Sisters.   I am passionate about working with youth and  helping them grow in confidence and life skills so as to reach their full potential.

Michelle Carroll
Adult Programs

Michelle, an Americorp alumnus, served our organization for two years as our Youth II coordinator, working with middle and elementary school students. Michelle is a licensed cosmetologist and small business owner; and has experience as an activities director and assistant administrator for an assisted living facility; substitute teacher- elementary and middle schools; skills development coordinator; youth group leader and bible instructor.  Michelle’s Bachelor of Biblical Studies degree is from the International College of Bible Theology.  The knowledge she has gained from this diverse background has prepared her for this opportunity--allowing her to meet people where they are, see their potential, and make a difference in their lives.  Michelle is a prayer warrior who enjoys singing, and serving people. Michelle is excited about the opportunities and possibilities that the future holds in the Olde Forge community and can’t wait to see God at work.  Michelle, her husband Philip, and daughter, Larissa, relocated to Spotsylvania from New York eight years ago.  They enjoy family time and traveling.

Site Designer and Volunteer

Began his first experience with Olde Forge Junction in May of 2008 as web site planner and builder, and the he experienced his first event with the Olde Forge children at their end-of-year carnival. He is attending Virginia Tech after the summer of 2008 and hoping to build more websites like this one. He plans on transfering to California State Universtiy after two years at Virginia Tech. He enjoys a good book, hanging with friends, writing, painting, and working with pets at his job at Tidewater Trail Animal Hospital in Fredericksburg.
